Harten analyses your existing application and produces its documentation, recovered specification and proposed modernisation plan.

Read the documentation →We describe the application’s current behaviour and propose checks a replacement should pass. Your specialists can confirm what to preserve and what the business wants to change.
Explore the specification →We set out the proposed changes, dependencies, migration and verification work. The plan includes an indicative delivery schedule, risks and decisions for your team to review.

The fee covers source analysis, all three document sets and defined validation activities. It includes an agreed review allowance for working through the findings with your team.
Fee agreed after scoping
Discuss your applicationThe fee and delivery schedule are confirmed after reviewing the application, available source material and required customer involvement.
We aim to make the initial documents available during the first week. The following weeks focus on review, agreed investigation and refinement.
Week 1
Analyse the agreed source and supporting material. Produce the initial documentation, specification, supporting views and modernisation proposal.
Week 2
Work through selected rules, dependencies and important gaps. Record corrections, confirmed requirements and questions that need further investigation.
Week 3
Investigate the agreed technical questions and, where included in scope, run a focused feasibility exercise. Record the results and remaining limitations.
Week 4
Update the specification and plan. Hand over the document sets, recorded decisions, remaining gaps and recommended next steps.
The four-week schedule starts once source access and customer review sessions are arranged. The application’s size, complexity and your team’s availability are checked before we confirm the timetable.
Where agreed in advance, the engagement includes a focused technical feasibility exercise to test a proposed approach. Larger prototypes and implementation work are scoped separately.
For example, we might test whether a selected business rule can be reproduced in an executable test, or whether a particular dependency prevents the proposed approach. We agree the question, the test and the evidence to be produced before work starts.
We confirm the application boundary, source inputs, deliverables, acceptance criteria, review sessions and any feasibility exercise. The engagement is intended for applications up to approximately 500,000 source lines, subject to a complexity check.
The engagement covers the agreed activities over four weeks, not an unrestricted allocation of consultancy or development time. Additional investigations, larger prototypes, implementation and later source refreshes are quoted separately.
We distinguish what the source shows from what still needs confirmation. Your organisation decides which requirements and proposals to accept. The assessment does not replace production testing or security assurance.
These follow-on services are optional and separate from the initial fee.
Proposed price: £500 per organisation per month
The proposed workspace would provide retained access, document versions and defined support for up to five applications. Additional applications are provisionally priced at £50 per month. Storage, retention and support limits are agreed separately. This workspace subscription is a proposed service.
When your source changes or you need more coverage, Harten measures the changed inputs and quotes for the analysis and review required.
Continuous documentation is in development. Automatic updates and unlimited regeneration are not included in the engagement or proposed workspace subscription.
Tell us what the application supports, what source material is available and what you need to decide. Harten will confirm whether this engagement fits, what it would cover and the fixed fee before work begins.
