Interfaces
The evidence supports a heterogeneous set of source-level interfaces, but not a confirmed integrated topology or runtime deployment. The suite references CICS, BMS, commareas, VSAM, JCL, sequential files, IDCAMS, RACF, JES/TSO, SDSF, FTP, sorting, PDF conversion, Control-M, UNIX tooling, and optional DB2, IMS, MQ, GSAM/BSAM, assembly, and REXX components README.md; CARDDEMO.CSD; E0001 E0010 E0017 E0038 E0044.
The clearest online interface is the CICS terminal path beginning at sign-on transaction CC00. COSGN00C performs terminal I/O through the COSGN00 BMS map, validates security data, redisplays errors, exits on PF3, and routes authenticated users through XCTL and a commarea to either administrative or general menu processing [COSGN00C.cbl; COSGN00.bms; COSGN00.CPY] E0028 E0030 E0034. Other recorded online paths use BMS maps, terminal input and output, paging, and named programs for account, card, transaction, billing, reporting, and maintenance activities. The complete screen contracts, PF-key behavior, commarea layouts, state transitions, error responses, and response timing are not available E0013 E0026 E0038.
VSAM is the principal evidenced data-access interface for several online and batch operations. Account update may validate values, acquire record locks, and rewrite account and customer records, with handling for missing records, concurrent updates, and customer-update failure. Transaction processing may validate account and card relationships and write rejects to DALYREJS. Bill payment is described as checking account existence, balance, duplicate transaction identifiers, and confirmation before creating a transaction and updating a balance E0025 E0029. These descriptions do not establish transaction atomicity, CICS syncpoint behavior, commit or rollback boundaries, locking effectiveness, or recovery results. Claims about posting by CBTRN01C are contradicted by the visible absence of WRITE, REWRITE, or DELETE operations; substantive validation and posting are visible in CBTRN02C [COTRN00C.cbl] [COTRN01C.cbl] [COTRN02C.cbl] [CBTRN01C.cbl] [CBTRN02C.cbl].
Batch interfaces are expressed through JCL, utility control statements, sequential files, and catalog-managed VSAM components. Reported catalog evidence includes data, index, cluster, non-VSAM, and generation-data-group components under AWS.M2.CARDDEMO, with LISTCAT completing at condition code 0 [LISTCAT.txt]. REPROCT.ctl confirms a REPRO operation from FILEIN to FILEOUT, but does not establish filtering, validation, encoding conversion, or the identities of the underlying datasets E0022. Initialization, loading, replacement, posting, statements, reports, imports, exports, indexing, backup, cleanup, and scheduled processing are described as batch intents rather than demonstrated interfaces. CBEXPORT and CBIMPORT are referenced, but the export layout is unavailable and a sequential-versus-indexed file mismatch remains unresolved E0007 E0040 E0045.
Optional interfaces include DB2 SQL and bind processing, IMS PSB/DBD access, GSAM/BSAM, and MQ GET/PUT1 operations. Authorization processing reportedly combines MQ, IMS, DB2, and VSAM, but cross-system atomicity and operational connectivity are unproven [COPAUA0C.cbl] [COPAUS2C.cbl] [DBPAUTP0.dbd] [UNLDPADB.JCL] E0009 E0011. PAUTDTL1 declares 200 bytes while an unload specifies LRECL=206, and relationships among AUTHFRDS, DBPAUTP0, and their differing error handling remain unresolved. Queue names, providers, endpoints, message contracts, transformations, encodings, ownership, and permission behavior are unknown E0035 E0046.
Operational interfaces also reference RACF, JES/TSO, SDSF, FTP, Control-M, UNIX tooling, sorting, and PDF conversion. Their presence in source or job definitions does not prove successful authentication, scheduling, transfer direction, network connectivity, credential validity, or external consumption. Conflicts include AWSTSSC.AUTHFRDS versus hard-coded CARDDEMO.AUTHFRDS, TRANFILE versus TRANBKP, differing job orders, and disputed FTP direction [FTPJCL.JCL] E0016 E0032. Security enforcement, identity propagation, queue permissions, masking, encryption, and audit behavior remain unverified.
Interface characterization therefore requires execution-based evidence: identify which programs and jobs build, bind, deploy, connect, and run together; then record actual commareas, dataset attributes, message behavior, return codes, commits, logs, external effects, failure handling, rerun behavior, and recovery outcomes. No complete interface contract or end-to-end connection is established by the supplied evidence.
Automated evidence review
Interfaces — Review
Supported by the supplied evidence
The draft is generally well bounded and correctly distinguishes source-level references from demonstrated runtime integration. The following claims are supported by the supplied evidence summary:
- The suite references CICS, BMS, commareas, VSAM, JCL, sequential files, IDCAMS, RACF, JES/TSO, SDSF, FTP, sorting, PDF conversion, Control-M, UNIX tooling, and optional DB2, IMS, MQ, GSAM/BSAM, assembly, and REXX components.
CC00andCOSGN00Cprovide the clearest evidenced online path. The use ofCOSGN00BMS, security validation, PF3 handling,XCTL, commarea routing, and administrative/general menu destinations is adequately supported.- VSAM access, account/customer updates, transaction validation, reject output to
DALYREJS, and bill-payment checks are described with appropriate qualifiers such as “may” and “reportedly.” - The draft correctly identifies the absence of evidence for atomicity, syncpoints, commit/rollback boundaries, effective locking, recovery, and end-to-end execution.
LISTCATcondition code 0 andREPROCT.ctl’sREPROfromFILEINtoFILEOUTare appropriately treated as evidence of declarations or utility operations, not proof of successful business processing.- The unresolved
PAUTDTL1200-byte declaration versusLRECL=206, dataset-name discrepancies,TRANFILE/TRANBKP, disputed FTP direction, and unknown queue or endpoint details are relevant interface issues. - The proposed need for execution-based characterization is appropriate.
Unsupported or potentially overstated claims
-
“VSAM is the principal evidenced data-access interface.”
The evidence establishes VSAM as a prominent interface, but “principal” is comparative and is not demonstrated by the supplied material. Use “a prominent” or “the most frequently referenced” only if an inventory supports that comparison. -
“Other recorded online paths use … named programs for account, card, transaction, billing, reporting, and maintenance activities.”
This is broadly supported by the second input, but the draft should distinguish programs that are merely named from programs whose callable interface, map contract, or execution path is actually demonstrated. -
“Substantive validation and posting are visible in
CBTRN02C.”
The second input supports this conclusion, but the artifact naming is inconsistent: the draft cites bothCOTRN02C.cblandCBTRN02C.cbl, and similarly usesCOTRN01C/CBTRN01C. The exact filenames and roles must be reconciled before presenting this as a firm contradiction. -
“No complete interface contract or end-to-end connection is established.”
This is defensible, but should be phrased as “not established by the supplied evidence.” The negative conclusion should not imply that execution was conclusively tested and failed. -
“Providers” and “external consumption” are unknown.
These are reasonable unknowns, but the evidence summary specifically supports unknown queue names, endpoints, contracts, transformations, encodings, ownership, and permissions. “Providers” and “external consumption” should either be tied to a cited artifact or marked as review questions rather than evidence findings.
Citation and traceability issues
- Several citation labels and filenames do not align: for example,
E0025links toevidence-E0029.md, andE0007links toevidence-E0008.md. These may be intentional cross-references, but they are difficult to audit and should be corrected or explained. - The draft cites
E0038for missing screen contracts and runtime details, while the second input also associates missing artifacts and configuration with other evidence identifiers. Citation scope should be made explicit. - The
COTRNversusCBTRNnaming discrepancy is material because it affects the conclusion about which program validates or posts transactions. - The catalog statement is accurate as written at a high level, but the draft should avoid implying that catalog presence proves the datasets are populated, accessible, correctly allocated, or connected to the cited jobs.
Gaps and unresolved interface questions
The draft identifies many gaps, but the Interfaces section should explicitly retain the following:
- Exact CICS transaction-to-program-to-map relationships, including
LINK,XCTL,RETURN, and syncpoint behavior. - COMMAREA names, lengths, versions, field semantics, initialization rules, and compatibility between callers and callees.
- BMS map field attributes, PF-key mappings, paging conventions, error messages, and terminal response behavior.
- VSAM dataset names, DDNAME mappings, keys, alternate indexes, record formats, sharing options, locking mode, and restart behavior.
- Whether account, customer, balance, and transaction updates occur within one unit of work.
- Batch DD concatenations, DISP semantics, dataset-generation relationships, record formats, code pages, and EOF/error handling.
- The actual layout and direction of
CBEXPORT/CBIMPORT, including resolution of the sequential-versus-indexed mismatch. - MQ queue-manager and queue names, bindings, message formats, correlation or transaction identifiers, persistence, authorization, and retry/dead-letter behavior.
- IMS PCB/PSB usage, DB2 bind/package/plan identity, connection configuration, and whether optional components can operate in the same deployment.
- FTP source and destination, transfer mode, credentials, encryption, retry behavior, and whether the jobs are active or illustrative.
- Scheduler dependencies, predecessor conditions, calendars, restart points, and operational ownership.
Recommended revision
Retain the cautious structure, but replace “interface” with “interface reference,” “declared operation,” or “source-level path” where runtime existence is unproven. Reconcile artifact names and citation identifiers, remove or qualify comparative terms such as “principal,” and clearly separate:
- evidenced source declarations;
- intended or described behavior;
- demonstrated execution; and
- unresolved integration questions.
