Component cooperation

In this document

Which internal components cooperate, what are their responsibilities, and what passes between them?

This view focuses on the internal components relevant to Reporting and the evidenced paths by which reporting-related data or control may move between them. D4_Main exposes a Reports menu option, D4_Report contains implemented mailing-label and accounts-receivable report logic, and D4_Globals provides shared reporting state such as print_option.E0001E0002 The supplied evidence also identifies customer, order, and database-related components that can provide report inputs, although the exact framework dispatch and report lifecycle are not fully available.E0002

The model distinguishes implemented report behavior from menu or documentation claims. Backlog and stock-list reporting are explicitly described as unimplemented in the retained evidence, despite declared interfaces and menu/help entries.E0002E0004 Relationships marked inferred represent likely cooperation from menu wiring or shared data access; they are not claims of live runtime verification.E0002

Elements

D4_Main

Kind: component
Basis: reported
Description: Application module entry point that starts the application, selects the stores7 database alias, and creates menu commands for Customer, Orders, Stock, Reports, and Exit.E0001E0002
Evidence: E0001, E0002

D4_Report

Kind: component
Basis: reported
Description: Reporting module responsible for implemented mailing-label and accounts-receivable report paths, with output choices for file, printer, and screen. Backlog and stock-list handlers are present as unimplemented stubs.E0001E0002
Evidence: E0001, E0002, E0004

D4_Globals

Kind: component
Basis: reported
Description: Shared application-state component that retrieves or initializes global values, including print_option, customer and order objects, item and stock arrays, and state data.E0001E0002
Evidence: E0001, E0002

D4_Cust

Kind: component
Basis: reported
Description: Customer component that performs customer entry, validation, query/browse, update, deletion checks, and database persistence. Its query and report-related predicates use constructed customer conditions, although the implementation and safety guarantees of Construct are unavailable.E0001E0002
Evidence: E0001, E0002

D4_Orders

Kind: component
Basis: reported
Description: Order component that supports implemented order creation, line-item collection, database insertion, invoice generation, customer-based order viewing, and attempted transactional rollback on insertion failure. Order update and deletion are menu-level stubs in the retained implementation.E0001E0002
Evidence: E0001, E0002

Database access

Kind: component
Basis: inferred
Description: The evidence supports a database-access responsibility through java.sql usage, _app.getDB("stores7"), SQL queries, order and item inserts, and report queries. The concrete framework or database-access implementation is not supplied, so this is a semantic component rather than a recovered class boundary.E0001E0002
Evidence: E0001, E0002

Relationships

From: D4_Main
To: D4_Report
Relation: calls
Basis: inferred
Description: D4_Main registers a Reports menu command and D4_Report implements the reporting module, so the menu provides an inferred control path to reporting. The evidence does not show the exact command-dispatch method or prove successful runtime execution.E0001E0002
Evidence: E0001, E0002
Trigger: Selecting the Reports menu option.E0001
Information: Report-module command selection.E0001E0002
Mechanism: Menu command registration and framework dispatch; the dispatch implementation is missing.E0002
Evidence type: Source implementation and module/menu declarations.E0001E0002

Reporting reads shared output state

From: D4_Report
To: D4_Globals
Relation: exchanges
Basis: reported
Description: Report output behavior uses the global print_option, whose documented values select file, printer, or screen output; D4_Globals initializes or reuses that shared value.E0002
Evidence: E0002
Information: print_option and its values f, p, and s.E0002
Mechanism: Shared application-level global state retrieved through Application.GLOBALS_KEY.E0002
Evidence type: Source implementation summary.E0002

Reports exchange persisted data

From: D4_Report
To: Database access
Relation: exchanges
Basis: inferred
Description: The implemented report paths contain report logic and customer predicates, while the application uses SQL and a selected database alias for persistence. This supports an inferred exchange between reporting and database access, but the concrete report-query and framework boundaries are not fully supplied.E0001E0002
Evidence: E0001, E0002
Information: Customer and accounts-receivable report records and query predicates.E0002
Mechanism: SQL/database framework usage; exact report execution lifecycle is unresolved.E0001E0002
Evidence type: Source implementation summary and database call-site evidence.E0001E0002

Customer data reaches persistence

From: D4_Cust
To: Database access
Relation: exchanges
Basis: reported
Description: Customer creation inserts into customer, customer queries select and browse customer rows, updates execute an UPDATE customer, and deletion checks related orders before removal.E0001E0002
Evidence: E0001, E0002
Information: Customer records, query predicates, updates, and related-order counts.E0002
Mechanism: SQL statements through java.sql and database wrappers.E0001E0002
Control: Deletion is blocked when the related-order count is nonzero, although the evidence does not establish that the query distinguishes active orders from all orders.E0002
Evidence type: Source implementation summary.E0001E0002

Orders exchange persisted data

From: D4_Orders
To: Database access
Relation: exchanges
Basis: reported
Description: Order creation collects a header and line items, begins a transaction, inserts an order, retrieves a serial number, inserts item rows, commits, and attempts rollback on reported failure.E0002
Evidence: E0002
Information: Order headers, line items, generated order identity, and invoice-related data.E0002
Mechanism: Database transaction and SQL insertion flow.E0002
Control: Commit and rollback are described, but complete failure-path coverage cannot be confirmed because DBHelper and ErrorHandler implementations are missing.E0002
Evidence type: Source implementation summary.E0002

Orders use shared stock state

From: D4_Orders
To: D4_Globals
Relation: exchanges
Basis: inferred
Description: The application preloads stock records into shared state and order entry can select stock items. This supports inferred order-to-global-state cooperation, but does not establish stock CRUD or a precise runtime object reference.E0002
Evidence: E0002
Information: Preloaded stock records and selectable stock items.E0002
Mechanism: Shared application-level arrays and order-entry selection.E0002
Evidence type: Source implementation summary.E0002

Gaps

The exact dispatch from D4_Main menu commands to module methods is not supplied, so the main-menu relationship remains inferred rather than directly demonstrated.E0002 The concrete database-access component, report query statements, report factory, and report lifecycle methods are also missing or external to the supplied evidence.E0001E0002

The evidence conflicts on the breadth of Reporting: high-level descriptions list mailing labels, accounts receivable, backlog, and stock-list reports, while the retained implementation and help evidence identify backlog and stock-list reporting as unimplemented.E0001E0002E0004 Only mailing-label and accounts-receivable implementation is supported here.E0002

Transaction completeness, SQL-construction safety, and the exact semantics of shared global state remain unresolved because framework classes, schema details, and relevant companion files are absent.E0001E0002 The model therefore does not establish successful runtime cooperation or complete data-flow coverage.

Recovery limitations

  • The view includes explicitly marked inference.
